For a number of decades Peter Maynard has been creating fine handcrafted furniture,

meeting the demands of the custom furniture marketplace. After serving his apprenticeship with venerated Connecticut River Valley furniture makers, he took the knowledge that he gained to design and craft period furniture of Colonial and Early America. This evolved into serving the high end New York and New England marketplace where he designed and crafted in a wide range of styles, culminating in commissions from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This, in turn, led to a national reputation as a custom builder of high end furnishings for discerning homeowners, architects and designers.

Some fifteen years ago he chose to focus his practice in the American Arts & Crafts genre, displaying his designs at the leading Arts & Crafts conference in Asheville, North Carolina.

In recent years he has chosen to explore ideas that are the product of the totality of his custom furniture making experience. Some of these pieces can be seen in the Gallery Collection on this website.

Throughout his entire career Peter has cultivated a deep and abiding relationship with the North American forest. His vast knowledge and experience with the life of trees and their impact on the human experience is still very much at the center of his pursuit of his craft.
